Concord's "aRt Cottage" Goes Abstract

The current exhibition at the aRt Cottage on Mount Diablo Street is "all about abstract."

Tucked away on Mount Diablo Street is Concord's aRt Cottage, a home for the local art scene and a rare find now that Gallery Concord has shut down.

Pleasant Hill resident and local artist Frogard Butler opened the space in early 2012, creating "mini galleries," as she calls them, where local artists from across Contra Costa County can display work, hang out, teach, learn and create.

Past shows this year have included printmaking, an "egg-stravaganza" featuring photography all about eggs, a mixed media celebration and an exhibition of drawings and paintings of nudes.

The current show is "all about abstract" and runs until June 29, with an opening reception June 6, featuring painters, sculptors, photographers, pen and pencil artists and more.

"The variety is breathtaking," said Butler about the abstract exhibition.

The gallery at 2238 Mt. Diablo Street is open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Tues day to Friday and from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on the weekend.
