Concord To Install Arches at Todos Santos Plaza

A project to brand the city's downtown park is in the works.

The City of Concord is planning to install arches at Todos Santos Plaza to decorate and identify the area.

Two arches will be installed on Willow Pass Road, one at the corner of Mt. Diablo Street and one on the corner of Grant Street, according to public documents.  The 12-foot tall arches would spread over the existing walkways, mounted on “flinstone” columns. They will be made of welded tubular steel and contain the name of the plaza written in an ornamental fashion. The project has been in the works since at least 2013, according to public documents. It is being done in conjunction with the installation of a fence at in the downtown park.

JMEC Engineering Inc., a Walnut Creek-based firm, is designing the arches with city staff. An engineer on the project said the last thing that needs to be worked out before they can start putting them in is the lighting. The project may use LED lights to illuminate them. The placement is not yet set in stone. City staff will meet on Tuesday at 7 p.m. to talk about the project's final details.

City staff said the arches are scheduled for installation in February. Take a look at the photos attached to this post to see what it will look like. A version of the plans in color can be found here.
