A man who died in a car crash near the Byron Airport in eastern Contra Costa County early Sunday morning has been identified by the county coroner's office as 60-year-old Antioch resident James Etchells. The crash was reported about 12:05 a.m. on Byron Highway just east of Holey Road, according to the California Highway Patrol. A black SUV reportedly overturned several times and came to a rest off the roadway, CHP officials said. Byron Highway was closed while crews investigated and cleared the scene of the crash. The roadway reopened nearly three hours later.
