An elementary school in Antioch was on lockdown Wednesday morning because of a shooting nearby, an Antioch Unified School District official said. Fremont Elementary School, located at 1413 F St., was ordered by police to go on lockdown after shots were reportedly fired near the school around 8:10 a.m., school district student support services director Bob Sanchez said. School had just begun, Sanchez said, and classes were able to continue without interruption.
Nearby schools, Live Oak High School and Antioch middle and high schools, were also put on "high alert," Sanchez said. Police notified school officials that at least one shooting suspect was in a house nearby, Sanchez said. Around 9 a.m., the lockdown order was lifted when police said the situation was under control, he said. No students or teachers were injured and "at no time was a student in danger," Sanchez said. Antioch police were not immediately available to provide more details about the shooting.
