Concord Woman Arrested On Suspicion Of Starting Grass Fire In Martinez

From Bay City News Service:

Martinez police arrested a 48-year-old Concord woman Sunday evening after authorities say she was caught starting a brush fire that threatened homes.

Police were called to a hillside near Alhambra Avenue and Alhambra Hills Drive shortly after 5 p.m. where a brush fire had started, according to Lt. Aaron Roth.

Officers contacted a woman there who had allegedly started the fire, but she became uncooperative and allegedly resisted officers, Roth said. One officer sustained an injury to his leg before the woman was taken into custody.

Julie Tenpenny was arrested on suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance and arson, Roth said.

The fire spread rapidly in the direction of homes east of Alhambra Avenue between Alhambra Hills Drive and Vine Hill Way, but Contra Costa County firefighters were able to contain it before any homes were damaged.

About 15 acres were burned, a fire dispatcher said.

No evacuations were necessary. Roads closed due to the fire reopened around 7:50 p.m.
