10-Year-Old Injured in Car Crash

Editor's note: Contra Costa Fire Protection District officials initially said the boy was 11 years old. Antioch police have since clarified the boy is 10 years old.

A 10-year-old boy was hit by a car after he ran across the road in Antioch Wednesday afternoon, Antioch police said. The boy was hit around 2 p.m. by a car driven by a 75-year-old Pittsburg resident near A and West 15th streets, police said. The boy was conscious and breathing when fire and medical personnel arrived at the scene. A medical helicopter arrived a short time later to take him to Children's Hospital in Oakland. He suffered head and neck injuries and is expected to recover, police said. Based on a preliminary investigation, it appears the boy attempted to run across A Street into the path of the car that hit him, police said. Police said speed, alcohol, and drugs do not appear to be factors in the incident.
