A dachshund that once weighed 77 pounds has become an international star in the fight to raise awareness about the dangers of pet obesity.

A once very big little dog who has captured hearts worldwide is making Concord, California the final stop on his tour of the United States.

Obie, a dachshund that topped the scale at 77 pounds, was rescued in 2012 by a vet technician in Portland. She helped him slim down to 29 pounds and is now telling his story to help publicize animal obesity and raise awareness about spaying and neutering.

The 7-year-old dog has attracted quite the following, with 144,000 Facebook page likes and a portfolio of national media stories.

His team scouted the Bay Area for the final tour date. They announced Tuesday they'd found a location in Concord.

Getting fit wasn't an easy journey. Obie suffered from skin infections and had to have reconstruction surgery, a testament to how dangerous pet overfeeding can be.

Learn how Obie got healthy at a meet-n-greet in Concord next Wednesday.
