Lovely! Now to keep them blooming so nicely at least through July 4th! And is there a way City ofRead More Concord could weed the center meridian where Clayton Road and Hwy. 242 meet one another? I have an idea that might not be city property; but it is a major entrance to/exit from Concord, so might Patch have some influence with the powers that be to take care of the eyesore/fire hazard?????

Yes I do! A pretty reminder of our freedom.

Someone mentioned cherry focaccia on Facebook... so here's a recipe I found from Martha Stewart:Read More http://www.marthastewart.com/856388/sour-cherry-and-rosemary-focaccia

I've added another photo that shows the bush they were growing from.

Really? A rose? Interesting. Is it some specific type?
sharon layton May 16, 2013 at 12:09 pm
My in-family-expert says it is a simple rose.

I would add the Concord Art and Wine Walk every May. I also enjoyed the walking tour of historicalRead More buildings in downtown Concord (http://www.cityofconcord.org/about/historicalbldgs.htm).

Thanks to everyone for their wonderful suggestions (I'm the person that asked about what is there toRead More do in Concord), I really appreciate it! My family and I are really excited to explore the city and be a part of the community. Your kind gesture has already made us feel at home.

When the Okies left in dust bowl and moved to Ca...it raised the IQ level in both states. You areRead More probably related to an Okie...They picked your fruit, until somebody said ouch....You need to lighten up and have a good ole time....Do google Bob Wills music...Putchee in a good mood.
ROBERT E. FISHBACK May 10, 2013 at 09:33 pm
Ida....have you heard the song Ida Red? Google Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys and enjoy,,,,If youRead More want to enjoy and laugh..do google Bob Wills Music. To maximize all things...a combination dance hall for slow dancing with a full bar and a screen at one end could satisfy the whole deal. It would not have to be huge. I would have suggrested an ice skating rink, but older folks don;t need a broken hip. Ice rinks are sooo romantic. The old Pasadena Winter Garden was closed as an ice rink, but the years of it being an ice rink froze the soil way down and they had perma frost for years in So Cal. Yes, young and old like to slow dance to sweet old songs. Maybe there is hope....Where there is no vision, the people perish. Bob f

When the Concord Historial Society is finished moving and refurbishing the Masonic Temple, theRead More residents of the city will have a meeting place and museum that will be the pride of the central county. Not only will a historic building be saved from the scrap heap, but the planned museum complex will bring attention to the rich history of the city of Concord. In order to accomplish this, the Historic Society will need support from the community. What has been accomplished so far has been done with private funds from a group of like minded individuals who have contributed time and money to see Concord's history preserved.
lloyd crenna May 14, 2013 at 01:12 am
I was the President of the Historical Society during the period Adrienne's comment refers.Read More Building around the Masonic Temple was not planned by the City , although it was requested by the Society that the City consider that option to preserve it. When no reasonable accommodation was made to preserve the spirit and history of the Temple ( the developer offered to take photos and place them in a meeting room that the community could use when convenient to the development), the Society brought a legal action to obtain that result. The Agreement to transfer ownership to the Society and permit the Temple to be moved was the result of that action. Hopefully you are correct that a new development will improve the Galindo Street property. I am sure that the Society moving the Temple,to the Galindo Home and Gardens property, at no cost to the City, will not only improve the neighborhood but also provide a beautiful cultural asset to the community.
Adrienne May 13, 2013 at 09:18 pm
I live right by the old Masonic Temple. I am happy that they have found a solution that will keepRead More the historic building and free up the land for development. Previous developers pulled out as they could not build around the old building. Since it had been sitting alone and falling into disrepair it was attracting certain kinds of bad attention. Now the city needs to insist on the development of the ugly, dirty lot across the way with the burned out auto garage. Way to go everyone for finding the perfect solution to the ol' Masonic building.

It completely tasteful. Any other music would be annoying or would draw the wrong crowd of riffraffRead More to the area. Its worked for many years, so leave it alone. Its relaxing and makes me want to enjoy the square and its shops more.
Sylvia Snell Lundy April 30, 2013 at 04:16 pm
The classical music is lovely, and I have never heard anyone objecting. Originally, it might haveRead More been an idea for keeping a more boisterous after-school high school crowd from staying there and taking up all the tables and benches, etc, and playing boom boxes near the stage. Works well! Also, I do see some students sitting on the grass and studying by the classical music.
Emily Henry (Editor) April 30, 2013 at 02:37 pm
Here's a comment emailed in by a Patch reader, with an interesting idea: "I like it, but thenRead More I'm a classical music buff. My assumption was that if you put on hip-hop or rock, you'd have a stage full of kids showing off, and falling into the founntain.. But, I'd love to hear and see appropriate children's music, down by the children's play area, and see them dance around in the shade, when the slides, etc., are too hot to play on. A nice big piece of linoleum could be contributed, then kept rolled up when not in use...to save the grass. Parents should still stay nearby."

well,,,,, Police: Fatal Shooting At Large Family Party "Concord PD arrests Concord man onRead More suspicion of shooting Brentwood man on Mi Casa Court, near Monument Boulevard." We need to take guns away from illegals, or maybe give them more to increase the attrition rate.
Phucka PhaceBuuk May 1, 2013 at 07:24 pm
you probably never get out of your car or come in the late evening.

I'm from Oakland, and at certain times, it reminds me of international blvd (aka e.14th street).Read More Dope Dealers, Thugs, Prostitutes, etc. What that means is that it WILL be Oakland if its allowed to continue to thrive like it currently is. Stop the madness, setup police in this area. Also that street that is 100% Oakland all of the time, Laguna Street. That makes Oakland, look like Richmond. Just saying. How can that be right next to the Police Department? Gross. Needles everywhere, hookers, pimps beating up hookers.. just gross.
Phucka PhaceBuuk May 1, 2013 at 07:14 pm
Perhaps it was the Natives in this area that were the "EVIL" ones. Many times groups ofRead More Indians would kill, rape, etc other weaker tribes. And Perhaps, this was just karma coming back. lol. Either way, i think renaming this Mountain to its original name or leaving it Mt. Diablo would be fine. Changing it to some hippy/Christian name for the sack of "sensitivity" would be insane. Think of all the sign changes they would need to make. Thats 10 million in tax dollars already. Seems like they should focus on something else.

The City Council may have circled their wagons, but they're about to find out that most of theRead More cowboys have now joined with the Indians & they're presently outnumbered & outgunned with no cavalry coming to save them. Nothing less than complete surrender & total capitulation can save their hides or their dubious political futures now. There's going to be a showdown soon & it's going to give the term "High Noon" a completely new connotation. Invite your friends & neighbors over to pass around the peace pipe while they apply their warpaint, because time & public opinion are overwhelmingly in our favor & even Custer is on our side now. We demand our right to "safe & legal access" to medical marijuana guaranteed under state law & to be able to grow as much marijuana on our own property as legally allowed by state law. Why don't they enforce & abide by the present state law concerning medical marijuana (they all took an oath to do so) instead of devising new ways to circumvent the will of the voters & Legislature. Treason against the state is still a death penalty offense in California, although public hangings of elected officials have gone the way of gaslamps & hitching posts. They should repeal, repent & relocate to somewhere they'd obviously be more comfortable like Mississippi circa 1950 or we'll be seeing them & the city in civil court & they'd better bring plenty of attorney's & lots of money. Call Mayor Running Mouth & his cohorts & tell them to start waving the white flag now.
Summer Hemphill April 27, 2013 at 04:43 am
The Indians called it "Devil Mountain" because they had a devil of a time scoring anyRead More decent buds once the evil white people drove them off their land ! We've got too many cowboys & not enough Indians today,so pass the peace pipe & then we'll beat the devil out of the evil white people in City Hall (metaphorically speaking of course) ! Besides these clueless cretins have little hair & scalping settlers is so passe nowadays !
