Gleaning Project Hits Milestone

Concord-Diablo Rotary members pick one ton of unused fruit from neighborhood trees to donate to local food pantries.

Earlier this month, the Concord-Diablo Rotary surpassed an important milestone in its .   

One ton.

That’s one ton of fruit collected in the project—in which members of the club work with Diablo Valley homeowners to collect fruit on trees and donate it to local food pantries.

It was on March 10 that Rotary Community Services Director Edi Birsan, member Karen Mahshi and homeowner Solvig McDonald collected 450 pounds of grapefruits from Mahshi's trees.

That brought the total “weight” of the Rotary Club’s harvest for the year to 2,400 pounds.
