Concord Police Officer Halfway To LA By Bike

Officer Tod Nunn is taking part in the 545-mile AIDS/LifeCycle charity bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles.

A week off work for one Concord cop has meant a grueling 400-mile bike ride, including a climb up two hills known as "The Evil Twins," to make it past the halfway point from San Francisco to Los Angeles.

Nunn is taking part in the AIDS/LifeCyle bike ride to raise money for AIDS/HIV awareness and prevention and is on day six of the week-long ride spanning 545 miles.

On Friday, Nunn rides through Santa Barbara County along Highway 1, taking in some of California's most beautiful coastal views on the 83-mile trip to the AIDS/LifeCycle camp at Ventura State Beach. A candlelight vigil will be held Friday evening to remember the victims of AIDS — including Nunn's own mother, who died of the disease in 1995.

"He's an awesome guy who really cares and wants to help to be sure that no one else loses their mom, sister, brother or friend to AIDS," said Nunn's friend Dan Jones.

Nunn has raised $5,200 so far, according to his AIDS/LifeCycle page.
