Video: Afghan Bolani at the Farmers Market

Have you sampled the bolani, dips and jellies from the Concord-based company?

At the Concord farmers market Tuesday, Obaid Nemati, 21, handed out samples of spinach bolani topped with creamy cilantro pesto complemented by jalepeno jelly.

Nemati works for East & West Gourmet Afghan Food, Inc., a Concord-based company popular at farmers markets throughout Northern California, specializing in traditional Afghan foods.

The company was founded by a mother-son duo from Afghanistan. Nemati joined the team six years ago.

"We're all friends — but we're more like family," said Nemati. "That's how close we are."

The food is prepared at a commercial kitchen on Port Chicago Highway before being distributed to farmers markets throughout Northern California and Whole Foods Market stores.
