Olympic Trials: Kristian Ipsen Makes One of Two Berths

Clayton's Kristian Ipsen will represent the U.S. in London this summer, but on account of one event, instead of two. 

The Stanford sophomore came in third place Sunday — just 1.25 points short of winning a second berth during the 3-meter springboard at the U.S. Olympic Diving Trials in Federal Way, Wash. 

Ipsen, 19, and now four-time Olympian partner Troy Dumais, 32, will head to London based on their top-scoring performance last week during the 3-meter synchronized trial. 

The duo came in first place.

“When it was over and I looked up at my family and friends, it was finally like a dream come true,” Ipsen said in a press release. (Follow this link for more on that story). 

Ipsen is the second Clayton resident to qualify for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London. Kara Kohler, 21, will represent Princeton University's in of twelve U.S. Rowing teams going to London.
