Live Blog: Campo 5, Clayton Valley 3 for NCS Division II Baseball Championship

Follow the game live as Clayton Patch editor Patrick Creaven live blogs the section championship game.

Top 2: Well, long story short, I'm late. Sorry about that. Clayton Valley scored in the bottom of the first and Campolindo has runners on first and second right now and one out. Clayton Valley 1, Campolindo 0

CV's Dominic Mazza walks consecutive batters and Campolindo gets on the scoreboard. Mazza gets pulled for Jeff Doran. Clayton Valley 1, Campolindo 1

Campolindo's Brett Stephens hits a grounder to third that looked like a double play ball, but after Chax Meadows touched third his throw to first went wild, allowing a Cougars to score. Campolindo 2, Clayton Valley 1

Soft grounder to third gets the Eagles out of a nightmare inning.

Bottom 2: Christian Kaplan walks and attempts to steal second; he makes it safely, but Matt Jacobson is called for batter's interferance. Jacobson also strike out on the play.

Little two out rally. Josh Ballard walks and Jesse Medrano hits a single to center. An error by the center fielder allows Ballard to go to third.

Clayton Valley nearly snuck a run. On a pickoff throw to first, Ballard runs home, but Ballard is called out at the plate on the throw from first. Clayton Valley players and coachers disagree with the call, to say the least. Campolindo 2, Clayton Valley 1

Top 3:

Campolindo goes quietly one, two, three.

Bottom 3:

Chaz Meadows hits a single to left to lead off the inning.

With two outs Meadows steals second, but Ryan Kroll pops out to first.

Top 4:

With Trent Shelton, Josh Cushing and James Marvel, Campolindo loads the bases  with two outs. Austin Rei hits a bloop single over the first baseman, scoring Shelton and Cushing. A flyout ends the inning. Campolindo 4, Clayton Valley 1

Bottom 4:

Darrian Matthews leads off the inning with a double to left. A line drive to second is the first out of the inning, but errant throw to try and double-up Matthews allows Matthews to go to third.

Matt Jacobson strikes out but Josh Ballard hit a single to left center to drive home Matthews. Campolindo 4, Clayton Valley 2

Ballard is called out trying to steal second.

Top 5:

Campolindo goes in order, thanks to some great outfield play by Clayton Valley. Center fielder Jordan Burger gunned down a Cougar trying to go for a double at second for the second out and left fielder Christian Kaplan catches a flyball in the gap for the third out.

Bottom 5:

Jesse Medrano walks and Chaz Meadows hits an infield single for Clayton Valley to start the inning. Matt Bruzzone is now pitching for Campolindo.

A hard line drive to Robbie Tenerowicz at second is caught and he double's off Medrano. Meadows steals second with two outs.

Jeff Doran gounds out to second to end the inning.

Top 6:

Cole Rider walks to start the inning and Josh Cushing reaches on an error, to put runners on first and second and no one out.

Doran gets out of the jam, retiring the next three batters to end the inning.

Bottom 6:

Two-out rally for Clayton Valley. Christian Kaplan reaches first and is driven home on a double down the left line by Lucas Arteaga. "Dirty Eagle" chant has started. Campolindo 4, Clayton Valley 3

Ballard is struck out looking to end the inning.

Top 7:

A walk and bloop single has runners on first and second with two outs. Doran has been pulled for Chaz Meadows.

Cole Rider reaches first on an infield single to load the bases.

Meadows walks Josh Cushing, forcing in the insurance run. Campolindo 5, Clayton Valley 3

Fly ball left to ends the inning.

Bottom 7:

Laptop battery really low, yikes!

CV has three outs, Medrano then Meadows lead off the inning. Hard-throwing Austin Rei pitching.

Medrano grounds to first and can't beat Rei to the bag. One out.

Meadows strikes outs. Two away.

Jordan Burger with a double to right center. Clayton Valley alive, for now.

Dolan grounds out to second, ending the game. The Cougars pile on each other near the pitcher's mound. Campolindo 5, Clayton Valley 3

Campolindo is the NCS Division II baseball champion. Clayton Valley might have been the better during the regular season, but Campolindo was better today. They simply made fewer mistakes and the pitching was more consistent.

In the not too distant past, before I wrote about , or or , I was a sports journalist.

Therefore, whenever I find an excuse to go back to my bread-and-butter I try to take advantage. And I got a good excuse today.

Clayton Valley faces Campolindo in the North Coast Section Division II baseball championship today.

I'll be there, live blogging, so you can follow the action on Patch if you can't make it.

Even if you are there, you can follow my thoughts on the Patch iPhone App (I'm a company man).

The game starts at 5 p.m. so check back later to follow the action.
