De La Salle and Newark boys win while Carondelet cruises to victory

Here are the quarterfinal games in the Nor Cal basketball tournament that involved local high school teams on Saturday evening.

Boys Division I

De La Salle 54  Pleasant Grove 40

Top seeded De La Salle High put away a pesky eighth seeded Pleasant Grove High squad, 54-40.

The Spartans (28-2) led 25-18 at halftime and then outscored Pleasant Grove 19-6 in the third quarter to seal the contest.

De La Salle was led by their guard combination of Elliott Pitts, who scored 24 points and snared nine rebounds, and Amadi Udenyi, who tallied 19 points to go along with four rebounds and four steals.

Jesuit 73  Castro Valley 53

Fourth-seeded Jesuit High handily defeated Castro Valley High, 73-53, to advance to the semifinals.

The 12th seeded Trojans finish their season with a 23-8 record.

Boys Division II

Newark Memorial 75  Bella Vista 64

Newark Memorial High came on strong in the third quarter to open up a close game and cruised to a 75-64 victory over seventh seeded Bella Vista High.

The second seeded Cougars will face third seeded Serra High in the semifinals on Tuesday evening.

Newark Memorial (27-4) led 34-26 at halftime but then scored 28 points in the third quarter to blow open the game.

Serra 64  Las Lomas 43

Serra High got out quickly and buried Las Lomas High, 64-43, to move onto the semifinals.

Third seeded Serra (24-6) led 17-4 after the first quarter and 37-14 at halftime, cruising to victory.

The 11th seeded Knights (21-11) played without their top player, Tyler Fidelibus, who injured a knee in Wednesday's quarterfinal game. Christian Lawson was Las Lomas' high scorer Saturday with 12 points.

Girls Division II

Carondelet 74  McNair 53

Carondelet High coasted to a 74-53 victory over McNair High of Stockton to advance to the semifinals.

The Cougars (27-3) led 42-32 at halftime and 53-39 after three quarters before putting the game away with a strong final period.

Natalie Romeo led Carondelet with 22 points and five steals. Hannah Huffman added 14 points and nine rebounds.

St. Mary's 77  Dougherty Valley 48

Top seeded St. Mary's High crushed eighth seeded Dougherty Valley High, 77-48, to advance to the semifinals.

The Wildcats finish their season with a 21-10 record.
