High School Basketball Playoff Recap

De La Salle, Carondelet and Newark Memorial boys advance to the NCS division finals while Dougherty Valley girls fall in the semis

Here are the results from Wednesday night's semifinals in the North Coast Section basketball tournament.

All teams from the semifinals will play in the NorCal tournament, which begins next week.

BOYS

De La Salle 47  Castro Valley 29

De La Salle High won the rematch of last year's NCS Division I title game by defeating fourth ranked Castro Valley High, 47-29, in a surprisingly low scoring game.

The top seeded Spartans will next play second ranked Deer Valley High, which defeated third seeded Freedom High, 71-53. That Division I championship begins at 8 p.m. Friday at St. Mary's College in Moraga.

Tonight's game was close for three quarters. De La Salle led 16-15 at half and 26-23 after three quarters.

However, the Spartans outscored the Trojans, 21-6, in the final period to seal the victory.

De La Salle was once again led by their guard duo, Amadi Udenyl, who scored 16 points (most of them in the fourth quarter), and Elliott Pitts, who tallied 13 points and snared 11 rebounds.

Castro Valley's high scorer was Derrick Clayton, who had 11 points and eight rebounds. The Trojans top player, Dawson Johnson, was held to eight points.

De La Salle is 26-2 on the season.

Castro Valley's record is now 21-7.

Newark Memorial 49  Las Lomas 37

Newark Memorial High came from behind in the second half to defeat fourth ranked Las Lomas High, 49-37.

The top seeded Cougars will play for the Division II title against second seeded Windsor High, which defeated College Park High, 56-40. That game begins at 8 p.m. at Dublin High School.

Las Lomas led tonight's game, 24-19, at halftime. However, the Cougars outscored the Knights 17-10 in the third period to take a 36-34 lead and then put the game away in the final quarter.

Newark Memorial was led by sophomore Damian Banford, who scored 15 points.

Las Lomas was led by guard Max Lober, who scored 14 points before fouling out.

Newark Memorial is now 25-4 on the season.

Las Lomas's record stands at 19-10.

GIRLS

Carondelet 66  Alameda 26

Top seeded Carondelet High crushed fifth seeded Alameda High, 66-26, to advance to the Division II championship game.

The Cougars will play Casa Grande High at 6 p.m. Friday at Dublin High School.

Carondelet is now 25-3 on the season.

Alameda is 22-7.

Casa Grande 60  Dougherty Valley 48

Casa Grande High continued its impressive season by defeating second seeded Dougherty Valley High, 60-48.

Casa Grande will play Carondelet High at 6 p.m. Friday at Dublin High School for the Division II title.

Casa Grande is 30-1 on the season.

Dougherty Valley's record is 20-9.

In the girls Division I title game, it'll be top seeded Berkeley High (25-2) against second seeded Deer Valley High (21-7). That game begins at 6 p.m. at St. Mary's College.
