The basketball season ended abruptly Tuesday night for both De La Salle High and Carondelet High.
In the boys Division I bracket, top seeded De La Salle was upset by fourth seeded Jesuit-Carmichael High of Sacramento County, 44-41, in the Northern California semifinals.
The game was tied 14-14 at halftime. De La Salle held a 30-21 lead at the end of the third quarter, but they were outscored 23-11 in the final period.
The Spartans were led by guard Amadi Udenyl, who scored 19 points. Their other guard, Elliot Pitts, grabbed seven rebounds but only scored five points.
De La Salle finishes the season at 28-3. They had won 18 in a row before Tuesday night's loss.
Jesuit (27-6) will play second seeded Sheldon-Sacramento (28-5) in the Nor Cal finals on Saturday night.
In the girls' Division II bracket, second seeded Carondelet also went down to defeat, losing to third seeded Archbishop Mitty High, 54-51, in their semifinal match.
The Cougars finish their season with a 27-4 record. They had won 16 in a row before Tuesday night's defeat.
Archbishop Mitty will play top seeded St. Mary's High of Stockton (30-3) on Saturday.
In the boys' Division II bracket, second seeded Newark Memorial High defeated third seeded Serra High, 48-46, in that semifinal.
Newark Memorial (28-4) will play top seeded Archbishop Mitty High (29-3) on Saturday afternoon for the Northern California championship.
