Baseball: Clayton Valley Begins NCS Playoffs Today

Clayton Valley plays its first round game against Montgomery at home at 5 p.m.

After a regular season which saw Clayton Valley lose just three games out of 24, the Diablo Valley League champions will try to string together four straight wins to take the North Coast Section Division II title.

The second-seeded Eagles (19-3-2) hosts No. 15 Montgomery (12-11) in the first round of the 16-team tournament at 5 p.m.

Bob Ralston's team has put up impressive statistics this season: the team has a .334 batting average, is averaging 7.7 runs a game and has a 0.98 team earned run average.

Montgomery snuck into the playoffs, finishing third in the North Bay League.

If the Eagles reach the championship game it might give them a chance to avenge one of their losses this season. Alameda is the No. 1 team in the tournament and beat the Eagles 5-3 on March 22.
