Pittsburg Unified School District Granted $100K

The California Department of Education announced Friday that the Pittsburg Unified School District received a $100,000 grant to bolster nutrition programs.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture supplied the “Farm to School” grant that is earmarked for programs that increase student and parent knowledge of healthy eating options.

Part of the funding will be used to incorporate locally grown fruits and vegetables into the district’s meal program that feeds more than 10,500 students in K-12, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Pittsburg USD is one of five districts in California that received such a grant.
