Mt. Diablo Unified's Truancy Rate Well Below State Average
Mt. Diablo High has the highest rate in the district at 61 percent, but MDUSD's overall rate of 19 percent is low compared to other areas.
Less than a fifth of Mt. Diablo Unified students were reported as truant during the past school year, according to information released by the state superintendent's office.
The district's 18.9 percent truancy rate is well below the state and county averages.
Truancy is defined as any student who misses 30 minutes or more of class time without a valid excuse at least three times in one school year.

Not surprisingly, high schools have the highest truancy rates.
The state data shows 61 percent of Mt. Diablo High students were reported as truant during the 2011-2012 school year. The next highest rate was Ygnacio Valley High at 58 percent.

Clayton Valley Charter High was listed as having zero truants.
At the middle schools, the truancy rate ranged from a low of 3 percent at Foothill to 42 percent at Oak Grove.
In the elementary schools, the truancy rate ranged from a low of 2.1 at Wren Avenue to 22 percent at Valhalla.
