MDUSD Grants Easement for Parking Lot

With the approval of the Mt. Diablo Unified School District, the city has the green light to expand the parking lot at the Clayton Community Park.

Dropping off and picking up students at  might be a little easier next school year.

Clayton got the go-ahead to build a new driveway on the middle school's land following a decision by the Mt. Diablo School District trustees.

The school board voted Tuesday to permit the City of Clayton access to a 103-foot-long by 23-foot wide easement between the school’s southeast corner and the parking lot.

The school board’s vote was 4-1, with Trustee Sherry Whitmarsh dissenting.

With the easement, the city is now expected add 100 spaces to the community park parking lot with hopes of having the expansion done this fall.

Earlier this year, it looked as if the parking lot expansion might not come to fruition, because the school district didn't endorse the project.

Clayton officials believed the district was punishing them for an unrelated issue related to.

Mayor David Shuey said the city has talked with the district over the last month, which helped gain support for the project.
