Concord High Winter Percussion & Winter Guard

The Concord High School Winter Percussion and Winter Guard will be performing at their Friends and Family night, their final performance before their NCBA Championships on April 2 at Del Oro High School.  So far this year Winter Percussion has finished 1st, 3rd and 4th in their division competition, while the Winter Guard has taken 1st place in their division at their three appearances.

Winter Percussion is an indoor performance featuring marching percussion (battery) and front ensemble (pit). Winter Percussion has elements of musical performance, marching and theatre. This year’s show is titled “The Inner Crisis of Vesuvius”, a modern Greek tragedy of love, temptation, betrayal and revenge. The music is an original composition by the Concord High Music Director Gary Coartney, who designed the set, and along with Briana Mullen, designed the costumes.

Winter Guard is a form of color guard that performs indoors to music, using props, various equipment work and dance moves. For 2011, the Concord High Winter Guard will be performing to Michael Jackson’s “Man in the Mirror,” that will highlight dance, equipment, colorful flags and costuming. Concord High Winter Guard is directed by Andrea Riley-Sorem.
