DeLaSalle High Hails Athletic Hall of Famers

Ceremony is Sunday at the Kenneth H. Hofmann Student Center.

DeLaSalle High School in Concord inducts the third class of its athletic hall of fame at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Kenneth H. Hofmann Student Center.

The master of ceremonies is Sean Farnham, 1996, who led the Spartan basketball team to its first NorCal title and went on to star at UCLA.

The scheduled inductees are:

  • Frank Tamony — He was a “longtime teacher, baseball coach, Dean of Students, and mentor to generations of DLS students,” according to the program for the induction ceremony. Tamony will be presented by Terry Eidson, assistant football coach.
  • Bernie Stenson, 1970 — Starred on the Spartan swim team and then on the UCLA team. He will be presented by Gregg Wilson, swim coach at U.C. Santa Barbara.
  • Scott Molina, 1978 — Starred on the Spartan cross country team and went on to international fame as a triathlete. He will be presented by Mark DeMarco, 1978, president of DeLaSalle High School.
  • Mark Panella, 1985 — He starred at quarterback on the DeLaSalle gridiron, and was East Bay Player of the Year in baseball. He will be presented by Bob Ladouceur, football coach, and Bill Ross, freshman baseball coach.
  • Patrick Walsh, 1993 — He was a gritty running back who scored a school-record 68 career touchdowns and starred in baseball; he is now the football coach for Serra High School. He will be presented by football coach Bob Ladouceur.
  • Adin Brown, 1996 — A high achiever in soccer and water polo at DeLaSalle, he plays for the Portland Timbers in his 12th season of professional soccer. He will be presented by Brother Robert Wickman, former principal of DeLaSalle High, and Scott Hirsch, 1982, water polo coach.
  • 1991 cross country team — This “young but fearless squad” fought its way to the school’s first state title in the sport: Jason Chuderewicz, Chris Coats, Proinsias Fitzpatrick, John Kelly, Rob Koller, Matt McCoy, Mike Prindiville, Ty Walker and Jim Zachary. They will be presented by John Pelster, 1987, the cross country coach.
