CVHS Sophomore Wins Acting Award

In other local education news, high schools get ready for fund-raising auctions.

Congratulations to Katie Herling, a sophomore who won the San Francisco Shakespeare competition put on by the SF English Speaking Union. Katie took third place in the contest last year as a freshman. This year she won $200 and an all-expense-paid trip to New York in May for the national competition representing Clayton Valley, the Clayton Arts Academy and the SF English Speaking Union.

Clayton Valley's Student Art Show & Competition is Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. The theme of this year’s show is “Celebrating Student Innovation & Creativity!"

There will be paintings, drawings, sculpture, photography, video, digital and mixed media.

There also will be a raffle, with a prize donated by Pixar animator and CVHS Hall of Fame alumnus, Arik Ehle. Proceeds benefit the CVHS photography department.
No admission fee.

CVHS Music Fund Raisers

On Saturday and Sunday, Clayton Valley High band and orchestra students will be selling raffle tickets outside the Safeway at Clayton Station from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets are $5 or five for $20, and benefit those programs.

On April 9, the instrumental program will present the East Meets West fund raiser dinner and auction. Tickets are $15 and the dinner—in the CVHS multi-use room—will be catered by Panda Express. Entertainment will be provided by CVHS instrumental music students and special guests.

Thursday, March 24, 7 p.m.—CHS Orchestra, Orchestra at Concord High.

Tuesday,  March 29, 7 p.m.—CHS Wind Ensemble, El Dorado Middle School Wind Ensemble at Concord High.

Thursday, March 31, 7 p.m.—CHS Jazz Ensemble, Stage Band, El Dorado Middle School Jazz Band at Concord High.

Thursday, April 14 through Sunday, April 17, various times and locations—The Concord High Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble and Orchestra will be performing at the San Diego Heritage Festival.

Saturday, May 7, 7 p.m.—Concord High Dinner Dance at the Centre Concord, a fund raiser for the Concord High Instrumental Music Program featuring Orchestra, Stage Band and Jazz Ensemble.

Thursday, May 12,  6 p.m.—CHS Jazz Ensemble at Todos Santos Park, Concord.

Saturday, May 14 (time TBA) —Mount Diablo Music Education Foundation All Area Music Festival at Sleep Train Pavilion, Concord, featuring Concord High Jazz Ensemble, Orchestra and Wind Ensemble, as well as music groups from other MDUSD schools.

Northgate Parent/Faculty Club's Spring For Education auction and dinner dance will be held Saturday, April 9 at Boundary Oak Golf Course. Proceeds will benefit academic programs at the high school. Tickets, which are $50 per person, can be bought by contacting Lisa Lamm or on the PFC website, here
