What is Par for the Diablo Creek Course?

City report: Concord course averages 54,237 rounds annually over past five years.

As the city of Concord contemplates changing fees at its Diablo Creek Golf Course, it has a staff report looking at the number of rounds of golf in a year.

The report for a June City Council meeting mentioned 54,237 rounds of golf as the average annual number over the last five years at Diablo Creek. The comparable annual average at Walnut Creek’s Boundary Oak Golf Course was 61,502.

That’s a lot of golf!

Dividing by 365 days in a year, that’s 148 rounds of golf a day.  If you divide by 4 for foursomes (and of course it is sometimes threesomes, twosome and lonely golfers) that’s 37 parties at least going out each day.

Of course, the average number of parties a day is often more to balance all the light days when golfers are staying away— let’s say Christmas and Thanksgiving and a dozen or more rainy days around that time.

The city report made no estimate of how many of those 54,237 rounds of golf hit par or went under.
