The tradition of holding live town hall debates for presidential candidates began in 1992 and has since proved to be one of the biggest challenges for debators. Taking questions from the audience means an increased level of unpredictability, which in the past has led to candidates stumbling to answer questions, getting in each others' faces, and wandering around the stage.
