Poll: "Occupy Wall Street" Rallies Hit The East Bay. What Do You Think?

Tell us what you think about this new wave of anti-Wall Street protests.

What started as a relatively small group of people protesting what they see as corporate greed and government corruption in New York, has quickly ballooned to nationwide protests in a couple weeks.

On Tuesday, about outside Chevron headquarters in San Ramon. Later today, there's expected to be a similar rally in Walnut Creek and another in San Ramon.

Tell us what you think in our poll and explain your answer in the comment section.

No to mention, the banks paid back their LOANS with interest. I didn't support it but it was a loan.... we're talking about something completely different here so don't kid yourself. And, Moveon.org doesn't have any vaild points.... they are a bunch of lazy, unemployed or union thugs that won't be happy until Dennis Kucinich is in the White House.
Jack Herrington October 18, 2011 at 11:40 pm
Such a display of reason. I'm impressed. Name call twice in the same sentence! That's the three-point shot of reasoned debate. You win!
Tim October 18, 2011 at 11:43 pm
I don't accept the premise of your question... I know cops that are working details at and near Zuccotti Park. They didn't need this kind of presence at TEA Party event so there was no need to consider the fire hydrant proposal. Fortunately, sub-freezing temperatures are comming in the weeks ahead and these leeches will be back in their parents' basements very soon.
Jack Herrington October 18, 2011 at 11:47 pm
'Jerkoff'? Wow. We've gone from generalized name calling to insulting me directly have we? I thought only the smelly hippies on the left threw around insults like that. What happened to your moral superiority.
I didn't say I agreed with moveon on this point. I only called out hypocrisy. I didn't support the bank bailout either. Congratulations to both of us since we both lost on that one. BTW, your insults aren't going to get me to leave this thread either. They just further diminish your arguments and probably get you closer to being banned. I'm sure the insults and slurs tactic has worked for you in the past. It won't this time.
Tim October 18, 2011 at 11:48 pm
I was using your logic to make my point. 95% of black voters voted for Obama.... I don't think it's racist, I think it's pride in wanting to see someone of your ethnicity win the White House. Common sense suggests that Rubio would garner Latino votes that his number one on the ticket wouldn't alone. But no, Rubio is a very bright, well spoken statesman who would make a great VP no matter what his race.
Jack Herrington October 18, 2011 at 11:49 pm
That's the standard fallback on the empathy question from conservatives; "that situation would never happen so my hateful point stands". Oh well, never could understand why the empathy argument never works. Seems like such a simple concept; "do unto others as you would have done unto yourself". I seem to recall some dude saying that at some point... who was it again?
Tim October 18, 2011 at 11:55 pm
You have the arrogance to assume I would support TARP when I've been very clear on this any another thread regarding this issue that I do NOT support bank or any bailouts of any business, state, municipality, individual, etc. You on the other hand have the hypocrisy to rail against bank bailouts while suggesting it might be a good idea to bail out lazy college students.... Sorry, "jerkoff" was out of line, it won't let me delete, but I'm sure Patch will. My point, however, is a valid one no matter the language used.
Jack Herrington October 19, 2011 at 12:19 am
Thanks for the apology. But seriously, attack a group or attack the individual, does it really matter? It devalues your argument either way. Can't you just stop? Seriously. You clearly have points to make. Those points have validity. I even agree with you about bailing out the student loans. But you are shooting yourself in the foot with all of the bile.
Ask yourself why you are having this conversation. Is it to convince people, or to piss people off? If it's to try and convince people then saying "Listen A@#$ho& to my erudite and valid points" is not going to work, right? I have an open mind. You could convince me if you stopped insulting me and my friends.

Rush is documented to be "almost always right, 99.6% of the time"
Jack Herrington October 19, 2011 at 12:40 am
Points well made and I don't disagree. Rubio would be a logical choice for VP. Far better than Palin was.
Jack Herrington October 19, 2011 at 12:41 am
You just made me spit my coffee. Rush is easily debunkable on simple Google searchs.
Jack Herrington October 19, 2011 at 12:42 am
So because one side is acting poorly your side can act poorly as well? I recall debunking that logic when my kids were in pre-school.
Tim October 19, 2011 at 02:06 am
haha, that's why I put it in quotes, but I wouldn't go by the first left wing hate site you find on a google search. I don't think he's always right, and as someone with a degree in Environmental Science, I find his statements on global warming completely wrong and even arrogant in his ignorance. He is entertaining though and I do agree with his assessment of the fiscal failures of the Obama administration. Btw, he has a great name for Mark Levin... "F. Lee Levin"
Tim October 19, 2011 at 02:11 am
The difference is that Republicans aren't whining about "keeping the debate civil" It was B. Hussein Obama himself that said we need to bring back civility in his great speech following the Tucson tragedy. It's the height of hypocrisy when the guy is the least civil of anyone in his Chavez like propaganda speeches.
Jack Herrington October 20, 2011 at 02:05 am
I don't find "left wing" sites to debunk Rush. Rush can easily be debunked by official sources. For example, Rush says that "every one on minimum wage is a teenager". Wrong. The Bureau Of Labor Statistics puts the number at 25%. That's quite a substantial variance. Rush basically made something up and, as usual, it's wrong. Happens all the time. He is intellectually lazy.
Tim October 20, 2011 at 03:19 am
I don't think those statistics take into account all employed persons whereas Rush is excluding illegal aliens working these jobs as they have no business even being in the Country.
Jack October 20, 2011 at 07:55 pm
What is your definition of "middle class". The middle class I knew of didn't pay hundreds of dollars a month to talk on a phone or to watch TV or to buy the latest and greatest gadget, and they rarely ate out. If there is no middle class, it is because we live in an extremely consumer-oriented and wasteful society.
Tim October 21, 2011 at 02:13 am
Jack, looks like Obama got his jobs bill shot down yet again today in the Senate. All GOP and three Democrats stopped the latest portion of the "Save Obama's Job" act. It's getting more and more desperate for him by the day as more and more of the rats (Congressional Dems) jump ship.
RWCook October 21, 2011 at 02:58 am
"I'd love to see an Uprising in the Streets of America similar to those that have taken place abroad. " So, are you advocating the chaos that allowed the rape of the reporter in Tahrir Sq? The shooting of Coptic Christians? Or, today, a mob pulling their former leader out of a hiding place and shooting him dead? Careful what you wish for, brother!
RWCook October 21, 2011 at 03:22 am
I guess if we don't learn from history we are destined to repeat it...as we are. The Depression was years longer and deeper in the US because of a heavily regulating, anti-business, high tax-advocating "my group of elite academics knows better than the decisions of entire nation" President. Boom/bust cycles have happened since this country was founded. No amount of regulation/intervention corrects it, but they keep trying. The Fed has not stabilized the currency. The SEC has not protected investors' returns.
Jack Herrington October 21, 2011 at 04:25 pm
We are certainly more consumer oriented and wasteful than I would like, but I think it's reasonable to believe that we can have a society with a middle class. What does middle class mean? Works one job, owns a home, has a couple of kids that go to college on a combination of savings and student loans, retires comfortably. Is that really too much to ask?
Jack Herrington October 21, 2011 at 04:46 pm
Those conservadems jump ship all the time. Obama is in trouble. Congress is in trouble. The country is in trouble. And I don't take glee in any of it. I'm not like Rush, I don't want to see the country fail just to take down one man.
You mentioned taking back more than the House. I think you are in jeopardy of losing the House. People are going to dump these guys when they find out that all they've been up to for these two years has been re-hashing the same social agenda and playing politics with the jobs of school teachers, cops and firefighters.
Tim October 21, 2011 at 04:59 pm
What? Its not politics. We don't have the money to bail out broken blue states and local government. Why should tax payers in responsible states like TX and IN etc spend one dime to bail out dysfunctional CA? Maybe if CA could keep businesses from flocking out of the state they could keep a tax base and pay for their police, fire, and teachers. But no, they pass cap and trade which will kill more jobs and drive more businesses out of the state.
Jack Herrington October 24, 2011 at 11:01 am
Indiana, seriously? That's a debter state. And CA pays far more into fed coffers then it gets back. CA taxes pays for South Carolina's smooth roads.
But hey, with a clear and concise rebuttal like that I'm sure your bound to have people voting for Republicans in droves. As for CA keeping jobs, didn't we just get a huge new Dell facility in Santa Clara? As it turns out, having a well educated workforce is worth more than tax breaks to big companies. Why do you keep harping on Cali? Don't you live here? Shouldn't you be proud of our state? I love California. I couldn't think of another place I would rather live. If you hate our state so much why do you live here?
sandra dawson November 17, 2011 at 06:47 pm
I totally don't trust the Moveon organization. The occupiers think they mean well; but c'mon they don't have a clue. Feds control the govt...not the banks....protest where it will mean something instead of keeping the so called 99% from getting to work to put food on the table. Tying up traffic so emergency vehicles cant get through. May I remind you that the police you are attacking are part of the so called 99%. I say so-called because I have heard no explanation how this figure came about. How many of them are registered to vote? Why are students out of school?
The only place change will come is at the ballot box period.
Tim November 17, 2011 at 06:56 pm
Yea Jack, CA is doing so great that last year alone over 70,000 Californians fled for Texas. Yes CA is a beautiful state but liberal policies have ruined it economically and businesses are continuing to flee the state and taking would be tax revenue with them.
Timothy Swenson November 17, 2011 at 07:02 pm
Tim, Jack does have a point about you harping on Calif. Born and raised here, and I have lived in 4 other states, TX, VA, MS, and OH, and I could not wait to get back. Even quit my job to come back. Granted it was the weather that mostly made me come back, but since being back my income has gone up 3x, so I'm not complaining.
Tim November 17, 2011 at 07:14 pm
I agree CA is a beautiful state ir I wouldn't be living here but its no secret that the economic engine that drove CA from the 1950s on has stalled over the past decade to an average growth in gdp of about 1%. There is just too much regulation that is overly burdensome and I deal with it everyday in my job working with AQMDs, DTSC, etc. CARB regulations alone are and will continue to drive up the cost of energy and the fact is that businesses are leaving the state for more business friendly environments in other states. Texas has been proactively persuing CA businesses to relocate to their state. This is NOT the same CA you grew up in.
David Ross November 17, 2011 at 08:11 pm
What these so-called occupiers are conveniently forgetting or are just to much of a sheeple to do actual research is that the 1% of the people they are protesting against pay nearly 50% of all federal income taxes. On the flip side, 50 percent of people pay no federal income tax.
California is a beautiful state but it has some of the dumbest voters around. They complain about high taxes and over-regulation but then the vote for the same people year after year! If that's not craziness than I don't know what is.
Tim November 17, 2011 at 11:49 pm
Like you said, 50% pay nothing so they have no incentive to vote out these liberal politicians.
