I like the comment about smirking. It's a big part of these televised debates -- how you look while the other person is talking. Ronald Reagan was very good at it. -- Lance Howland, editor

Romney seems really confident. He's dominating the first segment.

Romney sure is a fast talker.

It seems pretty obvious that Jim Lehrer isn't doing too great a job of controlling the debate.

I agree Emily. Romney is hitting hard.

Yes, he's getting through a lot of ground... while Obama isn't keeping up.

If you talk fast enough no way anyone could keep up. Both of them actually gave me a bit of a head ache. I think they both did very poorly in the speaking department. I kept wanting to say as they spoke, "no wait, yes, no, not exactly, but....! Ugh.

I did cringe when Obama stumbled out of the gate wishing his wife a happy anniverasry. Romney made a good one.

Obama struggled to think on his feet and was wishing to find his response on the teleprompter that didn't exist.
And Obama can't defend is record.

clear win for romney. whether it matters, time will tell. but a good night for romney for sure. in some sense the challenger always has the advantage since he/she doesn't have to defend existing policies, but that doesn't explain it all.

Obama is fading away.
