Keen's Resignation is Effective Feb. 22

Concord Council bids farewell to City Manager.

Dan Keen's resignation is in, announced Mayor Ron Leone at Tuesday's council meeting.

The council met behind closed doors Tuesday to address the personnel change, which will have Assistant City Manager Valerie Barone step up to fill Keen's current position on an interim basis.

The city has given Barone the go ahead to search for an assistant city manager in the mean time, added the Mayor.

Keen, who became City Manager of Concord in 2008, had a 5-year, $270,000 annual salary contract approved by the City of Vallejo last week, according to the Times Herald.

He is expected to start the new job in March.

"... if anybody is going to help Vallejo, it is Dan Keen," said Leone. "We're going to miss him sorely."

Keen called the move to Vallejo -- a city that only recently emerged from bankruptcy -- a "once-in-a-lifetime career opportunity," two weeks ago.
