Higher Water Rates On Tap At Contra Costa Water District Board Meeting Wednesday

The board will hold a public hearing and may vote on a proposed 3.5 percent rate hike.

The Contra Costa Water District board of directors may vote Wednesday evening on a plan to raise water rates by 3.5 percent.

The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. in the district's board room, 1331 Concord Ave. in Concord.

The board will hold a public hearing on the rate increase proposal and then consider whether to approve the hike.

The rate increase is part of an annual review process the district does.

District officials say operating costs are expected to increase by 6 percent this year. They say they offset part of that increase with cost savings. The rate increase is scheduled to pay for the rest.

If the hike is approved, a single-family residence that uses 350 gallons of water a day would pay an extra $2.27 per month.
