Mt. Diablo School District Board Meeting: School Closures
The Mt. Diablo Unified School Board will use this meeting act upon the final school closure recommendations. The action item will be discussed among the board and there will be a 30-minute segment for public comment.
The committee in December—after 11 meetings over the course of four months—narrowed down possible school closure scenarios to three that were recommended to the board Jan. 20, 2011.
- Plan 1: Close (Concord) and disperse its students to El Dorado, and Valley View middle schools. El Dorado and are in Concord, Valley View is in Pleasant Hill. Close Silverwood Elementary (Concord) and move its students to , and elementary schools, all in Concord. Close (Concord) and move its students to El Monte, , Monte Gardens and elementary schools, all in Concord. Estimated savings to the district is $1,533,504.
- Plan 1B: Close Glenbrook Middle School, and Silverwood and Holbrook elementary schools. Holbrook students would be sent to Wren Avenue, , Monte Gardens and Westwood elementary schools, all in Concord. Estimated savings to the district is $1,504,453.
- Plan 4B: Close Sequoia Middle School (Pleasant Hill), Sequoia Elementary (Pleasant Hill) and Monte Gardens Elementary in Concord. Sequoia Middle School and Sequoia Elementary students would be sent back to their home district schools while Monte Garden students would be sent to their home schools or Westwood and Wren Avenues. Estimated savings to the district is $1,563,095.
