Employment in Construction Increased in September

Employers hired 148,000 people during the month of September, according to data released Tuesday by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, marginally changing the nation’s unemployment rate.

The release of the report was delayed by the federal government shutdown. This resulted in a delay of California’s monthly labor force report according to a memo released by Employment Development Department officials. 

The national unemployment rate in September was 7.2 percent, down .4 from June’s unemployment rate. 11.3 million Americans are unemployed and looking for work. The current population of the United States of America is 316,927,861, according to the U.S. Census.

Notably, the most hiring was done in transportation, warehousing, wholesale trade, and construction sectors, according to the employment situation summary.

The report will probably not faze the Federal Reserve, which will convene in about a week to discuss interest rates, given the dustiness of the data. It is unclear when California will release the September employment data.
