Contra Costa Registrar Estimates 80 Percent Turnout

Contra Costa County Registrar of Voters Steve Weir said Tuesday afternoon that he expected a turnout of around 80 percent, down from 2008's 87 percent.

Fewer voters are expected to participate in the 2012 election compared to 2008, according to Contra Costa County Registrar of Voters Steve Weir.

Weir said Tuesday that things were going relatively smoothly throughout the county. There were some minor glitches, as there always are for something as massive as a presidential election, but overall he said things were going well.

The turnout in Contra Costa is expected to be around 80 percent, said Weir, which is lower for this presidential election than it was in 2008, when 87 percent of registered voters went to the polls.
