Celebrate the Unsung, Behind-The-Scenes Heroes of Concord's Public Works!

The Concord Public Works Department invites the public to an open house on Wednesday, May 21 to tour the City Garage and Parks Maintenance Division offices at the City’s Corporation Yard.

The open house will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

At its meeting on May 6, the City Council proclaimed May 18-24 as Public Works Week in Concord. The week honors the often-unsung heroes employed by the City to serve the community in maintaining Concord’s infrastructure.

Each year, the Public Works Department highlights one of its divisions, which includes Parks Services (medians, street trees, open space and parks), Facilities Maintenance (City’s public buildings), Infrastructure Maintenance (streets, sewers, traffic signals and signs), and this year’s designee, Fleet Management.

The public is invited to tour the garage at 2360 Bisso Lane where the crew provides maintenance, repair and replacement for 261 City vehicles – cars, trucks, vans and field equipment.

The garage also provides repair and maintenance services to seven other local government agencies. Professional service technicians will be on hand to talk about garage operations and explain specialized repair equipment.

Participants can also tour the offices of the Parks Division, which are now located next door in the former CitiArts building at 1425 Gasoline Alley. As an efficiency measure, Parks offices have been consolidated into one facility.
