Man Accused of Murdering Father

Death took place on Friday morning on Meadow View Lane, outside of Clayton, according to sheriff's office.

A Contra Costa County man is suspected of murdering his own father, a sheriff's office spokesman said.

The victim, Richard Wester, 61, was reported unconscious and not breathing shortly after 11 a.m. Friday at his home on the 400 block of Meadow View Lane, outside of Clayton, according to sheriff's office spokesman Jimmy Lee. He was declared dead by paramedics by the time deputies arrived on scene.

After conducting interviews, detectives arrested Wester's son, Matthew Wester, 22, on suspicion of murder, Lee said. He is being held in lieu of $1 million bail.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday. Lee did not release further details about the circumstances surrounding the death.
