Woman Who Really Wanted To Go To Hawaii Diagnosed with Depression

Marilyn Jean Hartman, 62, has been under evaluation for the last month after her fourth arrest at SFO.

By Bay City News Service:

A woman caught repeatedly trying to board planes at San Francisco International Airport without a ticket has been diagnosed with major depressive disorder and sentenced to two years' supervised probation, the San Mateo County district attorney said Friday.

Marilyn Jean Hartman, 62, has been under evaluation for the last month by the county's Pathways Mental Health Program, which concluded that she was suffering from the mental illness, District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said.

She will be moved to a residential treatment program at Redwood House where she will remain under strict supervision and probation for the next two years, Wagstaffe said.

Hartman was previously placed on 18 months' probation for attempting to board flights to Hawaii three times without a ticket, according to Wagstaffe.

At that time, the court ordered her not to enter airport property unless she had a plane ticket, Wagstaffe said.

But Hartman returned to the airport twice in March without a ticket. Police arrested her in the international terminal food court and at the Terminal 3 baggage claim in incidents days apart.

On April 7, police arrested Hartman again inside a bathroom at the SFO international terminal.

Hartman pleaded no contest to misdemeanor trespassing on April 17, and her case was referred to the Pathways Mental Health Court. The Mental Health Court is designed to help defendants with mental health issues gain access to treatment programs.
