Windy Conditions Worry Fire Officials

Strong offshore winds, combined with low humidity has fire officials implementing a red flag warning starting at 10 p.m. tonight.

A red flag warning will be in effect tonight through early Thursday for areas in Contra Costa, Alameda and Santa Clara counties because of high fire danger, according to the National Weather Service.

The warning takes effect at 10 p.m. today and expires at 6 a.m. Thursday because of gusty offshore winds of up to 40 mph and low humidity following a warm and dry weekend, weather service officials said.

The strongest winds are expected late tonight through midday Wednesday, especially across the East Bay hills. In the North Bay hills, fire danger warnings will be in place from tonight until Wednesday night.
