Police said Shatayza Owens, 22, went into the store with her 4-year-old son, picked up a number of items and left without paying.

When a loss prevention officer confronted Owens outside the store, she brandished a knife and fled in a waiting red 1999 Toyota Solara driven by 40-year-old Kimberly Hardin, police said.

A Concord police officer tracked down the Solara, pulled it over and identified the two women as the suspects from the Old Navy incident, according to police.

The officer spotted the knife, stolen property and the young boy in the car, police said.

Owens and Hardin were later determined to have been involved in a similar incident at the Fry's store at 1695 Willow Pass Road on Saturday, police said.

A loss prevention officer from the Fry's store identified Owens and Hardin as the culprits.

The two were booked into Contra Costa County Jail on charges including robbery, commercial burglary and child endangerment.

The boy was released to his grandmother's custody.
