Though she was unconscious and not breathing, "Fire paramedics were able to get a pulse and blood pressure prior to leaving the scene," said Broschard.

"We saw [emergency personnel] giving her CPR in the parking lot ..." said Anna, a neighbor who asked that her last name not be shared. "It was chaos out here."

Anna said she saw "huge flames" coming from the second-floor apartment's window after neighbors ran from door-to-door, knocking to warn residents of what they feared would be a fast-spreading blaze.

"I was shaking," said Anna, whose next-door neighbor's apartment also caught fire just a few weeks ago. "We've been lucky with how fast [firefighters] get here."

Monday's fire was under control in 30 minutes after crews arrived, but caused significant damage to the apartment and possibly smoke damage to six or eight others, said Broschard.

The unidentified victim of Monday's fire lived with a roommate in the unit where
the fire started, added Broschard. The roommate was not home at the time.

The fire reportedly started in the bedroom and no other injuries were reported that day. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
