Transient Found Slain Behind Grocery Store

Death is city's first homicide of 2012, police said.

A 49-year-old transient was found dead behind a shopping center in Concord Sunday morning, marking the city's first homicide of 2012, according to police.

Officers and fire personnel responded to a call at about 7:30 a.m. about an unconscious homeless person at a shopping center on Monument Boulevard.

The man was found behind a vacant video store in a makeshift homeless encampment.

Paramedics determined the man was dead. He appeared to have been assaulted, according to police.
