Teen Arrested for Attempted Murder at Wendy's in Concord

Concord Police detectives arrested a man suspected of shooting another man in the parking lot of Wendy’s and leaving him to die.

Police told Patch they have two suspects for the shooting.

Concord resident Rafael Junior Zaragoza, 17, was arrested in San Francisco Friday evening and booked into Contra Costa County Juvenile Hall.

The shooting happened at the Wendy’s restaurant in the 1500 block of Monument Boulevard on January 10 at about 6 p.m. Police say it started when a group got into a confrontation inside the restaurant; it then escalated to the point that they took it outside. When the victim went outside, he was shot by one of the suspects, according to police.

Zaragoza is still in police custody; Gustavo Mendez, 19, remains at large. He is a Fairfield resident.

Police are asking anyone with his whereabouts to call Detective Adam Hart at 925-671-3040. Anonymous tips can be left on the tip line 925-603-5836. Law enforcement officials say Mendez should be considered armed and dangerous.
