SUV Driver Charged In Skateboard Death

Amanda Benning of Clayton was driving an SUV that ran a red light going into busy Concord intersection, resulting in the death of Scott Hickerson: DA reports. .

The Clayton driver of an SUV that struck and killed a Concord skateboarder on Dec. 7 has been charged with misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter.

Senior Deputy District Attorney Bruce Flynn told the Contra Costa Times that Amanda Benning, 21, ran a red light before the SUV went into the busy intersection of Monument Boulevard and Erickson Road in Concord. In the crosswalk, the SUV struck Scott Hickerson, also age 21; Hickerson died later that evening at John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek. Flynn said Benning was cooperative with investigators.

Hickerson was a 2009 graduate of Ygnacio Valley High.
