Suspected Dunken Driver Crashes Into Power Pole

Collision knocks out power to more than 2,600 customers early this morning.

BAY CITY NEWS—A suspected drunken driver crashed into a power pole in Concord early this morning, causing a power outage.

The crash happened shortly before 1:30 a.m. on Parkside Drive near Willow Pass Road, Concord police said.

The driver was arrested, but police were not releasing further details about the incident.

PG&E spokeswoman Tamar Sarkissian said the crash broke the power pole and caused wires to go down, which led to a momentary outage for 2,675 customers.

About 1,121 customers lost power for a little more than an hour, but as of about 9:30 a.m. only about 21 customers remained without power, Sarkissian said.

Police were providing traffic control in the area while crews worked to repair the pole. Sarkissian said they expect to have power restored to the remaining customers by about 2 p.m. today.
"We're working as quickly and as safely as possible and we appreciate our customers' patience while we work to restore their power," Sarkissian said.
