Sprinklers Douse Concord Apartment Fire

Blaze started in kitchen of California Street unit. No injuries reported.

A kitchen fire in a Concord apartment Saturday afternoon was quickly doused by sprinklers, a Contra Costa County Fire Protection District dispatcher said.

Fire crews responded around 12:45 p.m. Saturday to reports of a blaze at an apartment building in the 2100 block of California Street, the dispatcher said.

Crews arriving on the scene saw some smoke coming from a second-floor apartment. Fire sprinklers helped extinguish the blaze, which started in the apartment's kitchen, according to a statement from the fire district. The fire was deemed under control in less than 15 minutes, the dispatcher said.
