Concord police are investigating an apparent suicide early Tuesday morning in the parking lot of the 11-story , 1970 Diamond Blvd.

The initial report was for a subject down with an apparent gunshot wound. The call came at 5:40 a.m. Tuesday.

"Officers determined the victim had not in fact been shot, however, most likely died from a fall," according to a news release from the Concord Police Department.

The victim was not a registered guest at the hotel, said Hilton Concord General Manager Jack Hlavac.

He did not fall from the roof, which was locked and secure, Hlavac said. He landed in a parking lot at the southwest corner of the hotel. At that end of the building there is a covered stairway with cutouts open to the elements at each landing.

The victim, an Asian male in his twenties, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Police did not identify the victim.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Major Crimes Unit Detective Dave Ishikawa at (925) 603-5836. Anyone wishing to remain anonymous may call the Concord PD tipline at (925) 603-5836.
