Police to Target Concord's Traffic Collision Hot Spots

Biannual crime statistics show three areas in Concord with a high number of traffic collisions.

The Concord Police Department is hoping to reduce traffic collisions at three of the city's most dangerous hot-spots, according to Police Chief Guy Swanger.

Swanger presented to the city council Tuesday, which included stats on traffic collisions in the city from January through June of 2012.

The top three traffic-accident hot spots were Concord Boulevard at East Street, Sunset Ave at Port Chicago Highway, and Willow Pass Road at Diamond Boulevard.

"Those three locations are where we're going to focus our enforcement and try to bring the numbers down," said Concord Police Chief Guy Swanger.

There were 718 traffic collisions during in the first half of the year, 72 percent of which were non-injury. There were two incidents that resulted in fatalities, including the crash that caused .

The number of DUI cases rose this year, according to the bi-annual crime report. There were 305 in the first semester of 2011 and 322 during the same period of 2012 — an increase of 6 percent.
