Police: Chase Nets One Window-Smash Burglar

A second suspect escapes in the area of Mohr Lane, Concord. Officers while searching the area found a discarded handgun, Pleasant Hill police report.

Officers apprehended one auto window-smash burglar and failed to catch the second one Thursday morning after an auto and foot chase in the Concord-Pleasant Hill area, police reported.

The foot chase was in a dead-end court off Mohr Lane in Concord. It concluded with the arrest on multiple charges of Marco Antonio Diaz, 20, of Concord, and the discovery by officers of a discarded handgun with its serial numbers removed, Pleasant Hill Police Sgt. Tim Frank reported.

Diaz only resisted by running — he did not fight officers, Frank said. No shots were fired and no one was injured.

Diaz was the driver of the getaway car, and a passenger fled on foot and escaped, Frank said. Concord police assisted Pleasant Hill police in cordoning off the area near Mohr Lane.

The following narrative comes from Frank's press release:

Pleasant Hill police were investigating a window-smash burglary from a vehicle at Geary Road and Bonnie Lane at 9:09 a.m. Thursday. A cell phone and identification were stolen. Leads were developed and Diaz and his vehicle were discovered in the area of Monument Boulevard and Oak Grove Road in Concord.

Pleasant Hill police attempted to stop Diaz, who sped off. "A short pursuit ensued," Frank said. "Diaz stopped his vehicle on a dead end court off Mohr Lane where Diaz and his passenger fled the vehicle on foot. With the help of the Concord Police Department, the area was cordoned off and a search of the area was conducted by both agencies. Diaz was located and arrested. The passenger was not located nor has he been identified."

The passenger was described as a Hispanic man with brown hair, wearing blue jeans.

"During the search a discarded handgun with the serial numbers removed was discovered," Frank said. "It is unknown if the recovered handgun is related to this investigation."

Diaz is being held on $95,000 bail and faces charges of burglary, evading, possession of stolen property and possession of controlled substances.
