CPD Arrests Man After Standoff in Parking Lot of Willow Pass Road Complex

Man, 32, threatened to kill officer during traffic stop; was eventually tasered, arrested.

A 32-year-old man was arrested Wednesday after allegedly threatened to kill an officer during a traffic stop before speeding away. Police briefly chased the suspect before a standoff took place against the suspect in the parking lot of a Willow Pass Road apartment complex.

The suspect, identified as Mitkayem Robinson, pulled into the complex near Farm Bureau Road, where he refused to get out of the car and was seen making hostile gestures and shouting.

"The driver wouldn't comply with any direction," said Lt. David Hughes, of the Concord Police Department. "We tried to call him, tried the P.A system, but what prompted [the whole standoff] is that he started the car after yielding to the officer - presumably to drive off."

Approximately 15 police cars and a score of officers, some brandishing semi-automatic weapons, could be seen around 5:15 p.m. throughout the parking lot. See photos above.

Forty minutes after, several officers - including a K-9 and handler - were observed orchestrating an approach towards the vehicle.

To the cheers of by-standing residents, officers appeared to simultaneously smash the windows of Robinson's car while others dragged him out by force.

Police used a taser gun while subduing Robinson, who was visibly uncooperative.

Robinson was transported to a local hospital and eventually booked into the Martinez County Jail  for motor vehicle evasion, threatening a peace Officer, resisting arrest, being under the influence of illegal drugs and possession of illegal drug paraphernalia, said Hughes.
