Nuri Family Calls for Justice, Starts Petition

Family wants District Attorney to prosecute 17-year-old driver in fatal accident "to the full extent of the law."

The family of two cyclists, a Concord girl and her father killed in a tragic Treat Boulevard accident in April, have posted an online petition urging District Attorney Mark Peterson to file criminal charges against the 17-year-old driver of the SUV that struck the cyclists.

Almost one thousand supporters had signed the petition as of early Monday afternoon, which was published just two weeks after into the fatal accident and turned the case over to the Contra Costa District Attorney's Office.

The family calls for the DA's Office to charge the 17-year-old boy "to the full extent of the law." Click here to read the entire petition.

"The practice of fair justice and its full implementation will enhance the city's public safety efforts," reads the petition.  "... warning others of the consequences for not only speeding, but breaking city property, and cutting short TWO innocent lives."

The District Attorney's Office will not comment on the case until it has been fully reviewed, said a source at the Concord Police Department.

On April 7, the Escalade flipped over a number of times, witnesses said, before striking three cyclists in the family:

  • Hadessa, age 9.
  • Solaiman Nuri, 41, and
  • Hannah, age 12, a daughter and sister who survived the accident.

After reviewing evidence and speaking to witnesses, of the SUV Escalade that struck the family, resulting in two deaths.

They say the boy was speeding when he lost control of the SUV and struck the family, who were riding bycicles home from the park.
