A 60-vehicle pileup on Interstate 5 in Northern California caused a traffic nightmare Tuesday night, lasting through early Wednesday. A stretch of I-5 was closed following a collision at about 6:15 p.m. in the town of Yreka on the Oregon border. Officials estimate that around 60 cars were involved.
When California Highway Patrol officers arrived on scene, the chain of crashes was still happening, according to the Contra Costa Times.
There were no fatalities, but CHP says eight people were transported to hospital. Two suffered serious injuries.
The cause of the pileup has yet to be determined, but it may have been the icy roads, accoriding to CHP.

The last time I hit really bad visibility issues on I5 I actually pulled off and parked WAY CLEAR of the highway and turned my lights off as not to attract drivers following tail lights.
