No Injuries Reported in Concord School Bus Crash

Big rig and school bus collide on Highway 4, CHP reports.

Bay City News Service

Westbound state Highway 4 was closed for nearly an hour Thursday morning after a school bus and a big rig collided near Concord, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said.

One student was riding on the bus, but no injuries were reported, said CHP Officer John Fransen. The collision was reported on westbound Highway 4 just east of Port Chicago Highway about 8:25 a.m. Thursday.

A Sig-alert was issued at 8:35 a.m. It was lifted at 9:25 a.m., but the Port Chicago Highway on-ramp remained closed later in the morning. The collision remains under investigation, Fransen said.

Traffic was diverted to state Highway 242, just west of Port Chicago Highway, during the closure.

Was there a safer spot to pull her bus over, prephaps further up the roadway. The picture I saw looks like the driver bus was over into the lane of traffic. Did the driver think to put reflectors out. It is fortunate no one was killed.
